Period 14 January – 14 February 2023
Exhibition His [story] being – history repeating, history repeating by Porntep Petchsumrit “The point being that good comparisons often come from the experience of strangeness and absences.” – Benedict Anderson, A Life Beyond Boundaries: A Memoir, Verso Books, 2018. Memories are too fragile and personal to walk in and ask people to tell, to remember theirs. It can be difficult to find the right way to access those memories. During the period I was embedded in Khon Kaen city, along with moving back and forth between Bangkok, Khon Kaen, and Lamphun, that story set did not arrive. “Swamp never walks to buffalo” this analogy was said to be heard while I stayed in the area. Going out to meet failure every day greatly decreases my energy and curiosity. Nothing to be found, except a dataset from the artist’s interest at the starting point. Those answers were slowly relayed to the artist. Telling story or request to thinking back – at some point, I heard, “There’s nothing memorable”. When the memories never arrived, the interplay between the narratives and the listeners who are strangers. What is the point of inserting myself into and stealing other people’s lifetimes to tell stories, find witnesses of past events, and transfer to the narrative, if it was not recorded or passed on?
The sight of the working class who his life has stitched to a place for over 30 years and drawn to resources. And I, in my 30-ish years, still need someone to drive me home over 10 kilometers every time I visit home. This is the first stage of sight. I am a resource user, using time for others. Seeing the state of a home that had ceased to soak since I moved out. The energy and time of youngblood were also offered to the system to sell lifetime in exchange for numbers on the account. Fortunately, before the pandemic time, I gathered artistic experiences over years, and learned like a wise fool; to find myself dull in living with others and end up becoming foreign in all areas.
