Kua Deaw Kan(เธเธฑเธงเนเธเธตเธขเธงเธเธฑเธ) / Kenduri Seni Nusantara – One Tribe
Space is not merely a physical landscape that supports human habitation; it is shaped by intricate experiences and practices that connect diverse people and constantly evolve.
Kua Deaw Kan / Kenduri Seni Nusantara – One Tribe presents a festival of celebration through โSin Dadโ cooking. In Lao culture , โsinโ means โmeat,โ referring to all kinds of meat, while โdadโ refers to the methods of grilling, roasting, or searing on a hot pan.
This artwork initially started with the Kultx Collaborative artist group from Khon Kaen and The Lost JigSaw artist group from Laos. The exhibition title, Kua Deaw Kan (โOne tribe โ), might not necessarily signify unity in happiness, but rather it reflects the shared impacts experienced by people whose ways of life are influenced by different states of governance. Despite this, these impacts resonate with individuals on both sides of the river. If Sin Dad is a food that embodies the shared identity of people living along both banks of the Mekong, it may serve as a comfort, offering a momentary escape from hardship. Alongside the conversations shared with those gathered, the tenderness of the grilled meat paired with a rich dipping sauce defines this meal, as interpreted by the artists.
Now, this piece has traveled to the Kenduri Seni Patani festivalโa space embracing cultural, religious, and lifestyle diversity, much like a community festival. Kua Deaw Kan / Kenduri Seni Nusantara – One Tribe invites locals, artists, and attendees to join in, socialize, and enjoy Sin Dad. Adding color and flavor to the event, participants are encouraged to bring dipping sauces from their homes or regions, facilitating an exchange of tastes and stories. This cultural dialogue unfolds over a long halal Sin Dad grill, symbolizing the Friendship
